Arte Américas-Gabe Ramirez, Week 2
Hi again! My second week was a fun mission to keep helping in the Arte Américas Summer Program! Being a part of many small daily missions keeps me on my toes. One of my main tasks is to organize the kid drop-off every morning and talk with the parents about any questions or concerns. We've recently seen an increase in participants, so comforting crying children and helping the parents register their kids for classes has been one of my several tasks. I'm proud of myself for memorizing most of the kids' names and it'd be always funny when they tell me about their morning.

This experience has tested my patience and taught me to unconditionally be kind to rude people, specifically a handful of sassy parents. I also learned a lot from my peers about how to entertain children while making sure they follow instructions. Learning these little skills over these past 2 weeks has made my days go by a lot faster.

While organizing for this summer program, my peers and I plan for events far off into October. I've asked questions about the Curators and Program Manager and gained a lot of inside into the various work they do. Fun fact, one of the Co-Curators is actually a mural artist and helped paint the exhibit. I put my Washinton week networking skills to use and met with a president of funeral homes and a scholarship group. Actually, I had the sweetest conversations with a local artist who ended up gifting me some of her art! The more communication I have within Arte Américas and its local community the more I realize how people value good conversation and effort.

Even though I load and unload tables and chairs outside the museum in 100-degree weather, the museum is worth it as it's shown massive dedication to its community through quality learning and hardworking staff/volunteers. I have dozens of stories of the cutest interactions I've had with the kids, and seeing them enjoy various forms of art brings a lot of satisfaction.
