El Paso Museum of History- Ashley Mascorro, Week 1

Hello All!

I began my internship with the El Paso Museum of History last week, on June 28. My first assignment was to explore the different exhibits of our museum, especially the permanent exhibit: The Changing Pass. The Community Engagement Specialist tasked me with creating a sort of tour guidebook for the permanent exhibit, dividing it between me and Connor. I then got to assist the museum Registrar with the de-installation of the Dolores Huerta exhibit. I conducted research on half of the permanent exhibition throughout the week and conducted research for our Social Media Representative who is recreating our museum brochure. I was also able to assist with the museum summer camp which was centered around music. I even got to accompany them on a field trip to a local recording studio!

Being able to assist in these 3 departments has helped me realize all the moving parts inside and throughout the museum. I got to learn more about my city, things that I had no idea had happened!  Being able to interact with the campers also gave me the opportunity to preview what my profession with children would be like. I also got to interact with the staff and get a better understanding of their profession. They all have different education paths and future aspirations, it is quite inspiring. Being surrounded by people I identify with and feel empowered by allows for my internship to connect with the YAP mission. Getting to revisit the past through the exhibitions reminded me of when I visited NMAL. 

I am so excited to experience the next 3 weeks of my internship and immerse myself in my city's rich history and culture. I can;t wait to collaborate with other departments to further my development in community engagement and learn more.

  Hello everyone, I hope y'all are doing well.  The first week of my internship at the International Museum of Art & Science was very informative and eventful. I was given a more in depth tour of the four museum galleries as well as the front learning rooms and what the focus of each room was, for example the Biozone which encourages STEM learning and environmental consciousness.   Week #4 - Internship Journal Blog Museum of History, Anthropology and Art of the University of Puerto Rico by Rodolfo Enrique López-Gutiérrez/YAP 2022 This week was the most eventful week of my internship at the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras campus. It was the week of orientations for the freshman students. New students would receive an orientation through campus, then they would visit the main building where there were several information booths with staff members to help and orientate students about all the locations and resources of information. Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose - Week 1

 Howdy y'all!  The internships are normally conducted for a month in July, but due to family reasons I did my internship for 2 weeks in August at the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose in San Jose, California.  I arrived in California on August 2 after a long, miserable night early morning from Chicago, heading straight to my place I was staying, ready for the next morning - starting with a 1.5 hour commute by the San Jose VTA Light Rail to the Children's Museum. Arriving at the museum was no problem, as the museum has its own light rail stop, not to mention being a giant purple building. You just can't miss it.  The problem, however, is that the front entrance is decently hidden - so immediately after I arrived, I walked all the way around the entire building, confused and awkwardly searching for the front door - until I conceded defeat and messaged Evelyn, my internship supervisor, who said she would find me, as she was just arriving too.
