Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science- Amanda Saiz, Week 1
Hey everyone!
My first time visiting the Frost was in March of 2021. It was that type of experience you wish you could have for the first time all over again. I'm glad to say that, although July 6th was not my first time at this museum, my experience has been completely different (in the BEST way possible). Now, I can proudly reflect on my first time as a visitor and my time as an intern. While I was incredibly excited to intern at the Frost, I certainly did not expect to be granted such amazing opportunities.
As I walked through the exhibits on my first day, I realized that my appreciation for each exhibit expanded due to the knowledge I gained during Washington week. When discussing an ever-changing exhibit with an exhibition developer, I was glad that I was able to bring something new to the table. Despite reading the blurbs and paying attention to minor details, there were still details left unnoticed that truly tied the exhibit together (that I only noticed after talking to the developer).
Not only did I learn more about each exhibit, as well as participate in conversations and meetings meant to plan for the future of these exhibits, but I also helped organize the summer camp. I can, now, say that scavenging for materials in storage closets is the best way to familiarize yourself with your surroundings, as well as the people surrounding you!
While some experiences are certainly different, the museum does not lose its touch. The marine animals and incredible Miami views are still breathtaking.
Lastly, I want to mention how grateful I am for the amazing staff surrounding me! My internship supervisor, Sara Raposo, and the exhibition developer I am working with, Cory Keester- O'Mills, have been incredibly accommodating and understanding. They, both, provide great answers to any questions I may have, as well as share their insight on the projects we are working on.
In the future, I will continue to help develop the exhibit we are currently altering, as well as participate in other exciting opportunities (ie. WetLabs, beach cleanups, and preparing meals for the sharks). I'll be back with more updates in the upcoming weeks!
Sincerely, Amanda
