Week 3: July 20-26

Week 3 at the Witte :)

7/20 DAY 12

Today was a pretty normal day of camp. I got to do my favorite task which is watering the gardens and open up HEBBA :) For about a week there have been three computers that just won’t work no matter how many times you fix them. I was taught how to report the situation to IT support. Throughout the week I had only been with the green camp but today I did lunch coverage with the orange camp. After lunch coverage I spent the rest of my day working with the green camp. Honestly, another one of my favorite things to do is clean up after camp! The camp facilitators will take the kids up to check out and I’ll usually stay behind, wipe down all the tables with sanitary wipes and sweep up the floor. It’s really fun cause they let me play music while I clean :) It’s also really nice seeing the room all tidied after it was so messy.

7/21 DAY 13

Today was actually not a regular day at camp. We were just informed that morning that one of the kids in the orange camp had COVID. As expected, that camp was canceled so instead of doing activities, we got to pack up and sanitize the classroom. I got to put together bags that contained the projects and remaining activities of the campers. Parents would be able to pick them up so that the kids would still be able to do some of the planned lessons from the safety of their home. After we finished that, we got to prep for the next week.

7/22 DAY 14

Today I spent the day helping Ms. Helen Holdsworth, the chief of engagement, with an event that the museum was holding. In this educational workshop,  Mas Museos, teachers would go around to local museums and see what they had to offer for field trips and what type of education programs they held. Helen would present information on the Witte to the guests. Afterwards they were able to explore the museum for a while before they had to move on to the next one. My job at the event was to direct the teachers to the event room, help them with check-in, and hand them informational pamphlets. I actually got to see my old English teacher :)

7/25 DAY 15

The start of a new week means we get a new batch of kids for camp! I was put in charge of  distributing camp shirts to the little ones. Once lunch came around I went to lunch coverage with the green camp. While I was there I was helping out Rowley, our manager of STEM education, make some examples of an activity for next week. I made a rainbow pop up card.

7/26 DAY 16

I got to open HEBBA again this morning but IT was able to fix all the issues with the broken computer so there wasn’t that much to do. I had gone to each camp see if they needed any help but they were fully staffed. I ended up going back to the public programs office and helped out Casey organize her supply closet. By the time we finished it was time to go on beak. When I got back I got to organized the supply closet that’s utilized by everyone. Organizing is one of my favorite things so I had lots of fun with this mini task! I was able to finish that closet and start on to Josh’s old supply closet space. He used to be the manger of special programs here at the Witte so I was organizing all the craft supplies and programs for the next person who would fill in that role.
