National Museum of Mexican Art - Christian Malagon-Bravo, Week 4
Hello Everyone! Last week we were introduced to our new instructor. This weeks focus was how to tell our story with theater. The campers have been getting ready for Thursday's performance and are extremely excited to wear their folkloric dresses, shoes and hats.
On Monday, the campers were introduced to Miguel, our new instructor and they were taught how to make shadow puppets. They were also able to experience different roles of theater such as a script writer, puppet maker, background artist, and storyteller.
On Tuesday, The campers wrote their script and made character designs on their sketch books. Some of the stories that were created were a bird that jumps around the city and loves pancakes, then he saves the day by putting out a fire. Another one was about a farmer who's sheep got stolen for their wool and it was used to make cotton candy.
On Wednesday, The campers cut out their shadow puppets and colored them in, something that the campers and mentors found out was that if you use acrylic paint markers, when shown on the projector you can't see the colors on the screen. So, we found out that using colorful permanent marker works best to show the images.
On Thursday, The campers recorded their videos. This is when they were introduced to the camera and taught how to use it. Here a lot of the campers helped each other out by being the camera person, the narrator, prop player, or background mover.
On Friday, The campers did a live performance for their peers and they got practice for when they perform for their parents next Thursday, this is when everyone knew what every person was doing and last minute details were made to their story.
The internship at the NMMA has been so much fun and I learned so much. Not just from my adult mentors, but from the campers as well. This has been an overall great experience everyone has been so welcoming and I would like to get involved at the Museum in the future.
