Week 4: July 27- August 2

One month at the Witte!

7/27 DAY 17

I got to open up HEBBA after camp check-in. It’s great that all of our computers are working properly now, but I liked when I had to fix them :( None of the camps needed help again so I continued cleaning out the office supply closets. After lunch break and lunch coverage I worked on prepping some stuff for next weeks camp. Although most of the day was pretty normal,  the end of the day was very exciting:) Lessli and Rowley invited me to sit in on a Project Workshop meeting for a new science courtyard thats being built at the Witte. It was really interesting to see the planning that goes into these spaces. I got to see how many different departments come together to compromise on necessary details that will benefit the public and the museum. Speakers at the meeting included the CEO, various architects, a paleontologist, our STEM education manager, the manager of business and of fundraising, along with many other important people. After discussing and deciding on different aspects of the final project we all went to see the construction sight. It was nice to know that sometime in the future there will be a space where people can learn  how the maths and sciences are a part of our everyday lives  and you got to be a part of that planning process. The experience was very enlightening!

7/28-29 DAY 18 and 19

Just a regular day of helping out with camp and prepping for the next week. I did get to start reorganizing the huge camp supply closet! Usually this is done once camp season is completely over, but they wanted to get a head start. This is what I work on when I get free time :)

8/1 DAY 20

This is the start of a new week with a new group of kids. I stayed mostly with the cooking camp today. This batch of kids ranges from 9 to 12 years so they really didn’t need my help :( I spent most of my time disinfecting surfaces, washing dishes, and prepping/portioning ingredients that would be used for the next recipes.

8/2 DAY 21

Today I spent most of my time with the engineering camp. Again, this is an older group so they don't really need too much assistance. I was really just there to supervise and help with camp preparations. Throughout the week the kids will be building a model dream house. I helped cut out some of the walls and some of the furniture that will be used to decorate the model.

This is the last week of my internship here at the Witte! Time has blown by so fast. Within this time I was able to learn so much, meet new people, and gain new skills! Thanks for joining me on my journey :)
